Ashes in the Wild

Ashes in the Wild is a series of cardboard sculptures depicting animal species native to Boulder County that are particularly vulnerable to the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires. From grasslands to alpine habitats, these animals depend on ecosystems that are being reshaped by a changing climate.
Constructed entirely from cardboard — a material closely associated with packaging, shipping, and consumerism — the work reflects the human systems that contribute to climate change. Chosen for its disposability and flammability, the material echoes the vulnerability of the species it portrays and the changing landscapes they inhabit. Each sculpture is finished with an intentional charring, transforming repurposed cardboard into forms that bear the marks of fire.
